A Detailed Look at the Air Jordan 1 High “Lost and Found”
A close look at the 2022 return of the iconic “Chicago” colorway and its vintage-inspired details.
As fall begins in earnest, so does the anticipation for the biggest release of Holiday 2022: the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Lost & Found.” A decidedly vintage looking shoe, the “Lost & Found” is inspired by the model’s original “Chicago” colorway and the mom and pop shops that stashed it precariously in their storage rooms back in the day.
The “Lost & Found” isn’t the first Jordan 1 to riff on the “Chicago” colorway. In 2018, Jordan Brand released the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Origin Story” in celebration of “Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” In 2021, Marcus Jordan’s sneaker boutique, Trophy Room, collaborated with his father’s footwear company on the Jordan 1 High OG “Chicago,” a colorway that nods to Michael Jordan’s “freeze out” at the 1985 NBA All-Star Game.
While those remixed versions elaborate on the “Chicago” theme, the “Lost & Found” brings the colorway’s story back full circle to the original release. Every detail on the shoe is made to replicate what the original Jordan 1 would have looked like had you found it in brand new, unworn condition while digging through the dusty stockrooms of old school sneaker shops.
The “Lost & Found” features a faux crumbled black leather collar that nods to the fact that the OG Jordan 1’s collar has a tendency to crumble with age. Faux cracking is also present on the toe, mid-panel, and collar. Elsewhere, the pre-yellowed nylon tongue mimics the oxidation process, and the aged sole recreates the “dustiness” that is common with deadstock sneakers that have been stored for too long.
Unique packaging also plays a role in telling the “Lost & Found’s” story. The shoe is contained within an original-style Air Jordan 1 shoe box with a mismatched lid. Sale stickers are found outside of the box. Inside, each shoe is wrapped in tissue paper with graphics nodding to the early days of the Air Jordan line. A retro-style paper receipt completes the nostalgic vibe.
All of these different design components truly give the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Lost & Found” a “lost and found” feeling, indeed. For many of us, it’s the closest we’ll get to experiencing a bygone era in sneakers. An era that we’d all like to return to every now and again. The “Lost and Found” Jordan 1 is one little way to revisit the past right here in the present.
